FAQ
Basic Controls
- Is this an official game?
No this game is not made by Nintendo, it is fan-made and is based on previous pokemon games. Kyro is the creator of this game. - If I see another player cheating, or I want to report a hack/bug, what should I do?
If you see a player cheating, please try to take a screenshot and post it in Community Watch forum. If you encounter a bug, please post it on the forums. If it is a large exploit that might be taken advantage of, please privately send a message to the admins on the forum. - What is a Gamemaster [GM]?
Gamemasters help out by building the game and by monitoring the chat and fair play around the game. They are usually busy, so make sure your question is important if you are going to contact one. - Do Gamemasters [GM] have to help me?
Gamemasters are there to help monitor fair play in the game. It is up to the individual Player Gamemaster whether they offer in-game assistance and they are under no obligation to do this. - How does someone become a Gamemasters [GM]?
We keep track of potential Gamemasters through a variety of methods. We review their behaviour in the forums, the number and quality of abuse reports sent in, how useful and friendly they have been to other players and any messages sent in to us from other players about their behaviour in the game. How much they help with the game. The chances of a particular player becoming a Gamemaster is not based on their level of their character or how long they have played, but on the maturity and behaviour of all their characters in the game. This means that while you will not see a new player given Moderator status, you may see some that haven't played for more than a few months. We do investigate accounts fully before giving them Gamemaster status, so if you see [GM] in there name, the player will have earned it.If you have a previous punishment this does not necessarily end your chances of becoming a Gamemaster, if you have learnt from your mistakes and have made a positive impact on the game, it can result in the player being considered for the role of Gamemaster. We do not give out details on how close someone is getting to becoming a Gamemaster but if you are doing what is needed to become a Gamemaster then we will take notice. - How do I approach a GM?
If you have a question to ask, make sure it’s an important one, try not to ask a common question that any player would know. Make sure you talk nice and clear. If they don't reply, don't spam or keep asking. Because they may be busy working on the game. If you still get no reply then you can mail them instead. - How do I increase my chances in becoming a Gamemaster?
Following the game rules and setting a positive example for others either on the game or message board. Play fair (no cheating and the such) and just be a generally friendly person that can help out with player questions. Doing leadership roles, helping the new people when stuck, helps too. - Can I help with map making?
If you are interested in being a map maker please see this thread on the forums. - I was muted or banned, why?
If you have been muted or banned then you didn't follow the game rules. Depending on the nature, if it’s minor then it will be either a mute a ban lasting a few days. Excessive trolling and cheating may earn a permanent ban. Please read this topic for some information about banning. - How do I become a member and what are the advantages?
Look here. Members get 50% more experience, a better chance of catching shiny pokemon, twice as much pokemoney per battle and access to the pokemon shop. It costs $5 a month and helps pay for server costs. - How do I change my password?
/password email, oldpassword, newpassword, newpassword EG:. you want to change your password from "1234" to "4321". All you need is to know the email address that u used to register your account (like "me@provider.com") and type this: /password me@provider.com, 1234, 4321, 4321(to make sure you don't have a typo in your new password, you need to type it again).
Common Problems
- The game freezes when I enter a new area. How do I fix it?
Relog. (Shut down the game and log on again.) Also, when you go to the entrance of a new area, wait for the loading screen to come up before you move. If you walk into the door to the pokemart and nothing happens, don't walk back and try to reenter. Just wait for it to load. - Why is my screen dark/purple/pink/ect.
There is a night/day system in PWO. You can see the clock at the bottom left of the game screen. (It does not correspond to real time and it is night twice a day, so that everyone has a chance to experience night.) If your screen is too dark to see, your monitor is probably too dark and you should adjust the brightness. - How do I make the game full screen?
There is no fullscreen in the normal client, but the java client has fullscreen. (Java not currently available.) - Why can't I go into a house?
Not all buildings are finished yet. Most pokemon centers, stores, and gyms are open, but many houses and other unimportant buildings are not. - I lost to Brock and now I can't fight him or leave the city. Why?
If you lose to Brock or disconnect during battle it is a 36 hour wait before you can challenge him again. You cannot leave the city until you beat him and earn a badge. - Pokémon didn't Learn a New Move?
You should now be able to teach a pokemon a new move in the game itself, but if it still fails to learn the move you selected then do this:1. Make sure you are closed out of the game and go to playerdex.com/old2. Log in and click on "My Pokemon"3. Click on the pokemon whose moves you want to edit.4. Check the 4 boxes of the moves you want to learn. Note: It will be free while this bug exists, despite what it says. Also, if a pokemon forgets a move that it learned in its last evolution, it can not be relearned due to a bug. Please be careful and do not uncheck moves that you want to keep. - Stuck in a tree/wall/ect.
Usually if you are stuck in a tree or wall, just shut down the game and log in again, and you will be fine. You can also type /refresh or /stuck. If you are stuck permanently, or stuck on an NPC or other obstacle you cannot get free from, you will need a GM to move you. (If no GM is online, either wait or let another player KO your pokemon to return you to the PC.) - Pokémon Levels show inaccurately
Due to a bug, when you fight an NPC or other player, all of their pokemon will appear to be the same level as the first pokemon they fought with. Brock has level 15 and 19 pokemon, but they will both show as level 15. (If you want to look up someones pokemon levels before you battle, go to playerdex.com) - Pokémon didn't evolve
Stone and trade evolutions may not work. (Check here before you trade.)Goldeen will not evolve due to a bug. Any pokemon that uses a special item, or a circumstance like happiness, will not evolve. Stone evolutions may work after several tries. Most pokemon will evolve normally when they level up. Note: There is a bug where stopping the evolution by clicking "no" may not work, so if you don't want to evolve, shutting down the game when it asks to evolve is the surefire way to keep it from evolving. - Game clock says 00:00 or wrong time
The game clock is broken right now. For some users it never moves and for some it is the wrong time entirely. Note that pokemon like gastly which only come out at night are still catchable because the server knows the correct time, it is your game client which is messed up. See here for more info on how to fix.Or go to portforward.com. - Can't view other players
Some people can't view other players, but you will still be able to trade and battle them normally. Open ports 800 and 801 to fix or reset your modem to temporarily fix it. See here for more info:.Or go to portforward.com. - My config, appearance, or map button isn't working. How do I fix it?
Many features are still being added. These will be in as soon as they reach the top priority on the programmers' list of things to do. - Why does it say I beat the NPC even though I lost or disconnected?
Currently, when you have challenged an NPC and have not waited two weeks (two days for Brock) before re-challenging him the game gives you one message. This message is the same whether or not you defeated the trainer. - A Pokémon is asleep/is fully paralyzed but it is still attacking! Why does this happen?
Currently, there is a bug with sleep and paralyzation. If the pokémon that was put to sleep/was paralyzed is faster than its opponent it still attacks as it normally would. Status effects do not work properly, the same way most attacks do not work properly
